Vela — privacy policy
What the Vela app collects, what leaves your device, and what never does.
This policy covers the Vela iPhone app. The website has a separate policy.
The short version: your health data stays on your device and in your own iCloud. There are no accounts, no advertising and no tracking. We cannot see your doses, your weight, your symptoms or your photos, because they are never sent to us.
Data that never leaves your device
- Doses, injection sites, and your titration schedule
- Weight, measurements and body composition
- Side effects and daily check-ins
- Protein and fluid logs
- Progress photos — additionally encrypted on device, and excluded from iCloud sync entirely
If you enable iCloud sync, this data is copied to your own iCloud account so your devices stay in step. It is stored under your Apple account, governed by Apple's terms. We have no access to it.
The one case where data leaves
Two features send something outward, and only when you actively start them:
- Meal photo analysis. When you take a photo to estimate protein, that single image is sent to our proxy server and forwarded to an image analysis model. The proxy does not store the image; it passes it through and returns the result. Nothing accompanying the image identifies you — no account, no device identifier, no other health data.
- Barcode lookup. When you scan a barcode, the number is sent to a product database to retrieve nutrition information. A barcode identifies a product, not a person.
Neither feature runs in the background. Neither runs unless you start it.
Apple Health
If you turn on Apple Health, the app reads and writes weight and reads lean mass. Doses, symptoms and photos are never written to Health. This exchange happens entirely on your device between two apps; nothing is transmitted to us. You can revoke access at any time in the Health app.
What we do not do
- No accounts. There is nothing to sign up for.
- No advertising and no advertising identifiers.
- No third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
- No selling or sharing of data, in any form, to anyone.
- No data brokers, and no combining your data with anything else.
Subscriptions
Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never see your payment details. We receive only the anonymous confirmation from Apple that a subscription is active, which is what unlocks the paid features on your device.
Diagnostics you choose to send
If you write to support from inside the app, the message includes your app version, iOS version and device model. It does not include doses, weights, symptoms, photos or any other health data. The message is shown to you before you send it, and you can edit it.
Deleting your data
Settings contains a delete option that erases everything the app holds, including the encrypted photo vault, permanently and without recovery. To remove synced copies, disable iCloud sync before deleting, or remove the app's data from your Apple account settings.
Children
Vela is not intended for children and is not directed at anyone under 18.
